Microsoft Wants Copilot to Be a Bigger Part of Edge
Microsoft is all-in on AI right now. And its latest move? Making Copilot open automatically when you launch Microsoft Edge.
At the moment, if you want to use Copilot in Edge, you have to click the icon in the sidebar. No big deal. But this new feature would have Copilot ready to go as soon as you open your browser or start a new tab.
Some people will love having AI ready and waiting. Others might find it a little too much. Either way, it’s clear that Microsoft wants Copilot to become a regular part of using Edge.
There’s also another feature being tested: an “Ask Copilot” button in the Settings menu. If you’re ever stuck trying to change a setting, you could just ask Copilot instead of digging through menus. That could save time—especially for busy teams.
If your business uses Edge, here’s how this could help:
- Faster troubleshooting – Something not working? Ask Copilot instead of Googling or calling IT.
- AI on standby – Copilot can help write messages, summarize pages, or brainstorm ideas—right inside your browser.
- Better protection – Microsoft is also testing a “Scareware Blocker” to catch scam websites using AI.
Of course, all of this is still being tested in Edge Canary (Microsoft’s experimental version), so it might not roll out for everyone—yet. But given how much Microsoft is pushing AI, there’s a good chance it’s coming.
One thing to watch? Privacy. Microsoft hasn’t explained how the always-open Copilot will handle data. If it sticks around in every tab, some users may worry about what’s being collected. Hopefully, there will be clear controls to turn it off if needed.
